Soaring Solo: Unaccompanied Works II for Violin & Viola
Stephanie writes: “Soaring effortlessly high above the clouds. That’s the sensation I enjoy when I am in the perfect performance zone.... When I decided to record a second CD of solo pieces for violin and viola, Soaring Solo was the title that came ‘out of the blue’ and drifted into my consciousness. And like Going Solo, I wanted to seed these clouds with some of my favorites from the Baroque period along with a few lesser known, rarely recorded gems and, finally, to include treasures written by living composers. Enjoy your own flight on the wings of these exceptional composers and their inspiring compositions.”

The composers of these virtuoso pieces span over 300 years of classical music repertoire from the mid-17th century to three living composers, some of whom are still composing well into the 21st century. There are two world-premiere selections and the composers represented hail from eight different geographical areas of the globe.

Klassic 4 Kids

A GREAT INTRODUCTION TO INSTRUMENTS FOR KIDS
4 captivating and enchanting pieces that introduce children to the different families of the classical instruments.
Complete with story booklet.

The Day It Snowed Tortillas by Alice Gomez is the retelling of a Mexican folktale with brass, percussion and narrator bringing to life an unusual event in the day of a small village south of the border. The Three Billy Goats Gruff by James Scott Balentine is a string quintet that through narrator Timothy Jones tells anew this favorite tale of children. Our third story is based on Aesop’s fable The Golden Ax. With Timothy Jones singing the part of an honest woodsman and also his not so honest brother, and Susan Lorette Dunn as the water nymph who will get at the truth from her watery home, The Golden Ax is a classic of storytelling with music by David Heuser and a libretto by Gary Albright. The CD finishes with the lyrical A Lullaby for Two based on Johannes Brahms beautiful and emotional slow movement of his Double Concerto for Violin and Cello. It is sung with a mother’s poignant love by soprano CPMF favorite Mary Bonhag.

A Passion for Baroque
Audiences have clamored for a baroque collection season after season. Stephanie spent days culling through the great performances of the past nine festivals—and as difficult as it was to pare choices down to 73 minutes of music, she put together a magnificent collection. Performed by renowned chamber musicians from the U.S. and abroad that festival audiences have come to expect from Cactus Pear, this compilation is one of beauty, inspired works of art and sensuous music-making. And don't miss the very funny introduction to the Gottfried Finger masterpiece, the trumpet sonata. It's a gem and one-of-a-kind.
