Cactus Pear Music Festival Children's Concerts
FOUR kinder konzerts available
CPMF believes that you can't introduce children to classical music at too early an age. Of course, it has to be fun, educational, well-paced and captivating enough to keep the attention of those young minds. These 50-minute programs are well-paced, listener-friendly and filled with just the right amount of captivating music, demonstrations and humor to keep any child intently focused on the sights and sounds on stage—and will impress even YOU with their blend of incredible musicianship, great stories and humor! Each concert is created to introduce the young listener to a specific family of instruments.
The Kinder Konzerts not only extend our mission for educating the young people of the region but also further our goal of creating wonderful collaborations with area artists. To date we have worked with James Scott Balentine, Professor of Music Theory and Composition at the University of Texas at San Antonio, to create "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" on our "A Tale of Two Bridges" children's concert, and with Alice Gomez, Associate Professor of Music at San Antonio Community College, who composed "The Day It Snowed Tortillas" for our "Brass, Bells and Baubles" holiday concert.
A new commission has just been finished: it features Aesop's fable "The Golden Ax", a mini-opera for two voices, mezzo-soprano and bass baritone, and woodwind quintet with music by award-winning composer and UTSA Associate Professor of Music David Heuser and an original libretto by Gary Albright. We can't wait to perform this new Kinder Konzert.
